"…I turn on the radio and I'm struck by an uncanny moment. A journalist is describing a film narrative in which, as the leading character ages, the pathway of his life becomes more and more certain, narrow and closed – a pathway towards its ultimate finality. Only a few seconds before turning the radio on I had just been randomly daydreaming and had thought how, actually, even as one ages, and just as always, thankfully the vast indeterminacy remains – awareness of different corners and tracks, different lights and hues, that one hadn't seen before open up… I had thought of a dear friend who lives in this way, willing of the greeting with the fateful moment…"
